CCUS and H2 for a Large-Scale Industrial Cluster
Carbon capture & storage, and hydrogen concept solutions to help reach net zero in the UK.
Overview
The client is one of the UK’s largest cluster by industrial emissions, and is the location of a wide range of heavy industrial plants – including oil refining, steel manufacture, cement, chemicals and others – making it a potential location for a Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) cluster. The site has additional access to suitable CO2 storage sites in the Southern North Sea.
Carbon Capture & Storage Project:
Following the successful completion of feasibility study & pre-FEED by Penspen in 2022, the team have been selected by the client to further deliver the following Project Management Consultancy (PMC) services:
- Technical Support to Voluntary Carbon Credits (VCCS)/Development Constent Order (DCO) Application
- 55km CO2 24” pipeline route from point A to B
- The addition of new project team members: Construction Manager, Senior Pipeline Engineer, and Senior Project Engineer to provide significant impact on project deliverables
- FEED/EPC for the onshore and offshore pipeline and plaftform
Hydrogen Concept Project:
The client operates a power station with capacity to deliver electricity to the UK market and its national chemical parks. As part of Net Zero 2050, developing projects to decarbonise industry is a top priority, and Penspen have been selected to provide the following services to help drive the energy transition:
- Conceptual study for delivering up to 30% blend hydrogen to combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) units
- Hydrogen pipeline routing optioneering
- Process flow assurance
- Blending station design review
- Building structural analysis
- Process safety (QRA, HAZID)
- Development of basic engineering package
- Capex estimate
- Engineering finish forecast
