Penspen Joins Hydrogen UK to Drive the Future of Clean Energy in the UK

International engineering consultancy reinforces commitment to sustainable energy by becoming an official member of the UK’s leading hydrogen trade association.

Penspen, a leading international energy consultancy, is reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy by becoming an official member of Hydrogen UK, the UK’s premier hydrogen trade association.

Hydrogen UK represents businesses across the hydrogen value chain, shaping policy, driving investment, and supporting the implementation of hydrogen solutions to accelerate the hydrogen economy and help achieve the UK’s net-zero and energy security goals.

With a long-standing mission to improve access to secure and sustainable energy for communities worldwide, Penspen’s new membership further strengthens its commitment to hydrogen advancement and complements its existing memberships with Hydrogen Scotland, Hydrogen Ireland, and the North West Hydrogen Alliance. By joining Hydrogen UK, Penspen will leverage its global expertise and extensive energy transition track record to support the development and deployment of hydrogen solutions that contribute to the UK’s net-zero ambitions.

Hydrogen UK CEO, Clare Jackson, said: “I am delighted to welcome Penspen to Hydrogen UK. Penspen brings unique expertise in building and repurposing hydrogen infrastructure, informed by their worldwide experience. We look forward to collaborating on sustainable solutions to develop the hydrogen industry and deliver economic growth across the UK.”

Darren Barlett, Global Energy Transition Director at Penspen, added: “We are proud to join Hydrogen UK and amplify hydrogen’s critical role in decarbonising industries, transportation, and cities.

“Penspen has played a leading role in designing and repurposing infrastructure for the production, transportation, and storage of low-carbon hydrogen and its derivatives, such as green ammonia, across the UK and globally. We look forward to advancing the low-carbon agenda alongside other stakeholders in the hydrogen value chain through our membership with Hydrogen UK.”

Penspen’s Energy Transition Experience

For more than seven decades, Penspen has supported energy operators around the world to improve access to lower carbon fuels, and by extending the life of existing infrastructure, we continue to deliver cleaner energy to communities across the globe.

Our engineering consultancy services utilise our extensive experience in the delivery of thousands of hydrocarbon projects to inform the development of future fuels infrastructure, including repurposing existing infrastructure for hydrogen and CO2 transportation and processing.

The announcement of Penspen’s membership follows two recent significant energy transition contract wins. In November 2024, Penspen was selected to provide hydrogen blending assessment services for Conexus Baltic Grid and in January 2025, Penspen was awarded a contract to provide hydrogen gap analysis for the Trans Adriatic Pipeline AG, one of the most strategic energy transition infrastructure projects in Europe.
