Supporting World Environment Day 2024
Penspen is proud to support World Environment Day (WED) 2024. Explore our latest energy transition projects, studies, and energy transition consultancy service, and learn how Team Penspen is contributing to a cleaner energy future for all.
World Environment Day has been created by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), which is celebrated annually on the 5th of June. This year’s WED is hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with a focus on land restoration, halting desertification and building drought resilience for 2024. Find out below how our global employees have come together to support this year’s theme.
Team Penspen in Action
————————————
Reforestation Efforts
In response to the severe environmental crisis caused by extreme heat and deforestation in the State of Tabasco, employees at Penspen Mexico actively participated in World Environment Day by committing to the reforestation efforts. Recognising the threats to local wildlife, including the endangered howler monkeys (Alouatta palliata), they donated fruit trees aimed at restoring the natural habitat.
Demonstrating their commitment to the environment, Penspen Mexico employees went beyond just donating trees. They personally adopted multiple trees, planting them in home gardens and residential parks, ensuring that each tree would be nurtured and cared for.
Safe Medicine Recycling
According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), millions of pounds of unused or expired medications are improperly discarded each year in the United States. This act represents a risk to the environment and public health.
To support World Environment Day, Penspen employees in Colombia launched the “Save the Planet from an Overdose” campaign. They collected expired medications from their homes and safely deposited them in designated containers at the office for proper disposal. This initiative helps prevent environmental contamination and protects public health by ensuring medications are disposed of responsibly.
Responsible Waste Recycling
According to the the World Counts Association, Paper accounts for around 26% of total waste at landfills and paper production causes deforestation, uses enormous amounts of energy and water, and contributes to air pollution and waste problems.
Penspen’s Abu Dhabi office is dedicated to supporting the UAE government’s recycling initiatives and World Environment Day. To streamline waste management, our Abu Dhabi office has partnered with Shred-It for the regular collection of paper and e-waste. This partnership ensures proper disposal and recycling, with each collection documented by a Certificate of Destruction that records the weight collected and the number of trees saved.
