    New hydrogen blending contract award strengthens company’s global energy transition portfolio.

    Penspen, a leading international energy consultancy dedicated to improving access to secure and sustainable energy for communities worldwide, is expanding its energy transition project portfolio with the award of a hydrogen blending contract from Latvian Natural Gas Operator, Conexus Baltic Grid.

    Under this new contract, Penspen’s integrity team in the UK will assess the feasibility of introducing hydrogen blends into Conexus’ existing natural gas pipeline network, in alignment with industry international and national codes and regulations, to help optimise existing gas infrastructure in Latvia for a cleaner energy future.

    Leveraging its global expertise in hydrogen integration and pipeline safety, Penspen will conduct studies to assess and provide recommendations to mitigate the effects of hydrogen on pipeline steel properties, as well as examine the potential interactions with existing defects, to ensure structural integrity and ongoing safe operations under blended conditions. Penspen will provide essential insights to support Conexus’ safe and sustainable transition to hydrogen and contribution to global decarbonisation efforts.

    Penspen, a leading international energy consultancy, is expanding its presence in the North-East following the successful acquisition of Aberdeen-based C&I Engineering Solutions. 

    Control and Instrumentation engineering consultancy C&I Engineering Solutions will now operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Penspen, with Grant Lunn, CEO, Derek Sives, COO, Richard Auld, Technical Director, and Claire Macaulay, Finance Manager, comprising the company’s management team. 

    Penspen’s CEO, Peter O’Sullivan, said the acquisition enables Penspen to expand its support for energy and utilities companies in the UK, growing its team with new, high-quality capabilities, and adding new clients to its UK portfolio.

    New senior UK appointment to strengthen Europe service offering.

    Penspen, a leading global energy consultancy company, has announced a new senior appointment aimed at enhancing its engineering and project management (EPM) service offering and strengthening its energy transition capabilities across the UK and Europe.

    Based in Penspen’s Aberdeen office, Angus Reid joins Penspen as Head of Projects for the UK and Europe. With over 28 years’ experience in the energy sector, Mr Reid joins Penspen from Costain and brings a wealth of expertise in pipeline engineering, subsea developments, and major global energy projects, including notable work in the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, and Brazil. He holds engineering degrees from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh and NTNU in Trondheim, Norway.

    Over the past decade, Mr Reid has played a pivotal role in UK decarbonisation efforts, significantly contributing to the ETI’s Strategic UK Storage Appraisal Project, which became foundational for the UK government’s Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) Track 1 and 2 initiatives. In his new role at Penspen, Mr Reid will focus on the successful delivery of a diverse range of engineering projects across the region, supporting the growth of Penspen’s decarbonisation project work across Europe.

    Key appointments signify ongoing commitment to support clients navigate evolving energy landscape

    Penspen, a leading global energy consultancy, has announced three senior appointments aimed at enhancing its service offering and expanding its market presence across the Middle East and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

    Gordon Philip joins Penspen as Director of Asset Integrity – East region. Mr Philip brings over 30 years of integrity, operations, and maintenance experience in the energy sector. He joins Penspen from Asset Integrity Engineering in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), having previously held roles with DP World, Wood, Rever Offshore, and Bibby Offshore. Mr Philip will play a critical role in advancing Penspen’s regional asset integrity strategy during a period of substantial growth.

    Sasa Berisa has been appointed as Engineering and Project Management (EPM) Director for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Mr Berisa joined Penspen in 2022 as a Senior Project Manager, quickly progressing to Head of Engineering for the Middle East a year later. With over 30 years of industry experience in project management consultancy, feasibility studies, front end engineering and design (FEED) and detailed engineering, he will drive further development of Penspen’s engineering and project management offering in Saudi Arabia.

    New Energy Transition Role for the East Region

    Signifying the company’s growing expertise in supporting clients navigate the evolving energy landscape, Bilal Hassan joins Penspen as Principal Energy Transition Consultant for the East region. Mr Hassan brings extensive experience in leading and supporting national energy transition strategies in the UAE, having previously worked with various government organisations and international bodies on hydrogen, carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) implementation, as well as a range of climate change initiatives.

    In his newly created role, Mr Hassan aims to leverage Penspen’s extensive international experience in delivering low carbon fuels and CCUS projects to support local clients, with a focus on implementing strategies that ensure compliance with local emissions targets.

    Penspen today announces a strong finish to the fiscal year with $104 million awarded in new contracts during the second half of 2023 – – a 28% increase from the first half of 2023.

    Contract Highlights:

    • 34 new contracts with a total value of $90.8 million from our Middle East & Africa and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Regions, including project management supervision and consultancy services for major national oil companies, asset integrity consultancy services for onshore and offshore energy assets, and engineering design consultancy services for new and existing onshore and offshore energy assets.
    • 97 new contracts with a total value of $11.1 million from the European Regions, including engineering design services for hydrogen and carbon capture infrastructure, gas network maintenance services, gas transmission pipeline integrity frameworks, and fuel management engineering services.
    • 32 new contracts with a total value of $2.1 million from the North American and Latin American Regions, including asset integrity inspection services, risk-based inspection services, corrosion management services, operations management for brownfield assets, and electrical interference studies.

    Company strengthens capabilities to accelerate industry decarbonisation 

    Penspen, a leading global energy consultancy dedicated to improving access to cleaner energy for worldwide communities, today announced the appointment of Darren Bartlett to the new role of Global Energy Transition Director. The appointment strengthens the company’s energy transition capabilities and re-affirms its commitment to industry decarbonisation, helping the international energy industry accelerate the pathway to net zero emissions.

    Mr Bartlett joined Penspen in 2019 as Director of Sales & Marketing for the UK and Europe, progressing to acquire additional responsibility as Director of Engineering & Project Management for the same region two years later. He brings 25 years of experience from a variety of national and international energy organisations, such as Costain, Bechtel, and Technip. Furthermore, Mr Bartlett has a wealth of low-carbon and hydrogen-related expertise gained in both commercial and technical areas of the midstream and downstream sectors. His most recent work includes overseeing the delivery of:

    • Concept and basic engineering/FEED of the future H2 blending stations for a natural gas transmission system and natural gas distribution system
    • Complete engineering and consenting expertise for the UK’s first large-scale hydrogen production hub
    • Hydrogen assessment solutions to determine the feasibility and system compatibility with hydrogen for a multi-national power company

    • 27 new contracts in North America and Latin America across the Asset Management and Asset Integrity service lines, including structural analysis services for inspection of transportation infrastructure in Colombia, and multi-year asset management agreements for one of the largest exploration and production companies in the US
