Project Background

The client, a national oil company, wanted to ensure the safety and reliability of its static equipment by conducting comprehensive evaluations and risk assessments. This included assessing the remaining life of various components, performing Fitness-for-Service (FFS) engineering assessments to identify damage, and creating a risk matrix to understand and manage potential risks. Through these efforts, the client aimed to establish a robust framework for maintaining the integrity of their equipment and guiding future safety and maintenance decisions.

Services

Penspen’s Middle Eastern team, equipped with extensive integrity experience and expertise, delivered a comprehensive suite of integrity assessment services tailored to the client’s specific needs. Using advanced software tools, such as our integrity experts conducted thorough remaining life assessments of the client’s static equipment based on original design code requirements and anticipated corrosion rates. Our team also performed Fitness-for-Service (FFS) engineering assessments on a range of damaged static equipment, including pressure vessels, spheroids, tanks, heat exchangers, boilers, heaters, and piping systems.

Additionally, Penspen implemented a condition-based risk assessment to evaluate the associated risks for these assets, summarising the findings in a risk matrix, which became a key component of our final deliverable for the client. This comprehensive risk matrix provided the client with valuable insights for strategic maintenance and future integrity planning.

Result

The primary objectives of the integrity assessments were met, allowing the client to increase inspection intervals and reduce shutdown and turnaround time, leading to greater operational efficiency, minimised downtime, and improved productivity. By leveraging previous inspection data and past recorded failures to inform our assessments, we ensured the client had a thorough understanding of equipment integrity. The risk matrix enabled the client to make well-informed decisions regarding maintenance and inspection planning, contributing to enhanced reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness in their operations.
