The international community — including the UK — is committed to the benefits of a hydrogen-based energy economy. According to the Global Wind Energy Council, of all renewable energies, offshore wind and wind/solar hybrid projects have the highest potential to improve the economics of green hydrogen projects due to cost competitiveness and scalability.
Overall demand for hydrogen in the UK is predicted to increase up to 300 TWh, comparable to the nation’s electricity system today.
In an article for Energy Global, Penspen’s Executive Vice President of Technical Excellence, Nigel Curson, details the benefits of making informed decisions about reusing existing infrastructure for hydrogen production as well as the growing potential for offshore wind production and how projects such as these will have positive effects on the UK’s Net Zero ambitions.
